Law degree from the University of Costa Rica. He completed a specialisation in Commercial Law at the same university and, subsequently, doctoral studies at the Universidad Escuela Libre de Derecho, Costa Rica, where he completed his doctoral programme. He is currently studying for a Master's degree in Justice Systems and Rationality at University of Girona, Spain, and University of Genoa, Italy, as well as a Master's degree in Legal Argumentation at University of León, Spain and Tirant lo Blanch/Tirant Formación.
He has participated as a speaker in various seminars on criminal procedure law, both in the country and internationally. He worked in the Judiciary as a Judge of the Republic between 1988 and 2000. He has been a professor at the Universidad Latina de Costa Rica, at the Academic College of the Universidad Autónoma de Centro América, Costa Rica, and at the Universidad Internacional de las Américas, Costa Rica, and is currently a professor at the Universidad Fidélitas.
Since 2000, he has been a litigation lawyer and currently serves as partner and legal director of Themis P. G. Law Firm.
