Associate professor of criminal law at Utrecht University and an endowed professor of philosophy of criminal law at Groningen University. He is co-director of the Utrecht Centre for Accountability and Liability Law. His current research on preventive criminal justice focuses on the legal-philosophical underpinnings of preventive justice, the development of a legal framework through (new) principles, human rights, and law, and its relationship with developments in forensic psychiatry, machine learning, and neurosciences. In particular, he has published about the law of evidence governing preventive justice.
