Girona

Culture and heritage

The province of Girona has numerous medieval towns - Monells, Pals or Peratallada are some examples - but we cannot forget Besalú, one of the best known, thanks to the iconic and spectacular image of the majestic bridge at the town's entrance and for the conservation of an extremely valuable Jewish heritage site with one of the most important mikvehs in Europe. This town, together with Castelló d'Empúries and Girona, has one of the best preserved Jewish quarters in Europe.

Nature

Less than one hour away by car from Girona, it is possible to visit landscapes of great diversity and beauty. In Girona's province there are some renowned sites such as Banyoles Lake and the Fageda d'en Jordà (Garrotxa), which have influenced numerous artists. In addition, its coast, la Costa Brava, offers places of spectacular beauty: from magnificient coves and beaches, such as Aiguablava (Begur), to charming villages such as Cadaqués and Calella de Palafrugell.

Peaks of almost 3,000 metres and valleys such as Cerdanya and Camprodon form the Girona Pyrenees, where there are up to four ski resorts. With or without snow, you can enjoy mountain routes, reaching emblematic places such as the Sanctuary of Núria or, for the more adventurous, the peak of Puigmal (2,843 m).

Gastronomy

Girona can boast of having numerous international award-winning restaurants, including the one that has been considered the best in the world on several occasions: El Celler de Can Roca. It is worth remembering that it was in Empordà that the brilliant chef Ferran Adrià excelled worldwide. Without a doubt, in Girona, to speak of gastronomy is to speak of excellence.

Leisure

Accustomed to receiving millions of tourists every year, Girona has developed a wide range of leisure activities to satisfy all expectations. Around the city there are several golf courses, four spas, a thermoludic centre (Magma), as well as various wellness and health centres. On Costa Brava, there are many leisure activities to enjoy the sea. In the mountains, there are also a wide range of activities on offer: from skiing to horse riding and mountain biking, among others.
